Corps to hold Flood Outlook Meeting
KCSi-T.V. News Valley City, ND (KCSi-T.V. News ) -- The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers St. Paul District will hold a meeting on Tuesday March 2nd, at City Hall in Valley City.
Baldhill Dam Resource Manager Rich Schueneman will give a flood outlook report concerning Lake Ashtabula. At the meeting, Corps officials from St. Paul will give two power point presentations. One will be an overview of the 2009 Sheyenne River flooding, and another on current conditions.
Scheuneman says, at this time there’s a 50-50 chance the Sheyenne River in Valley City may eventually reach a level of 17 feet, depending on a number of factors, over the next few weeks.
In 2009, the Sheyenne reached a record level of 20.65 feet. He says over the next few weeks, additional precipitation, in the form of snow or rain, plus the rate of snow melt, creating runoff, and the amount of frost in the ground will have an impact on flooding.
He says, downstream at Lisbon, there’s a 50-50 chance the river will reach last year’s record high.
