City Commission Passes Resoution, Re Tolna Coulee

Valley City, ND (KCSi-T.V. News) -- The Valley City Commission met in Regular mid-month session Monday (Aug 16, 2010). Commissioner Jon Wagar was not present.
Approval of Consent Agenda included:
Approved a Game of Chance Raffle Permit for Barnes County Senior Citizens Council, Inc.
Resolution: Commissioners approved a Resolution urging the armoring of Tolna Coulee on the east end of Devils Lake, a protective device for Valley City and downsteam against Devils Lake waters, to prevent a “blowout” of Devils Lake overflows into the Sheyenne River.
City Administrator Jon Cameron says the City of Valley City is on record at the state, and federal levels in favoring arming the coulee.
Under New Business
The City Commission approved a Construction Engineering Contract with Kadrmas Lee & Jackson for Paving Improvement District No. 87 and Storm Sewer District 45 on College Street in the amount of $61,840.
Approved a FLEX Pace loan in the amount of $6,000 for Barnes County Ambulance Service, seeking a purchase of a news ambulance and associated equipment.
City Commissioners approved a Valley City Barnes County Development Corporation request for funds in the amount of $2,500 for payment of Levee Seeding management services provided by Wally Bjornson.
Approval was given of a Grant from North Dakota State Historical Society for final repairs to roof of the City Auditorium. A $25,000 grant is available to complete re-roofing at a cost of $30,000. $15,000 would be matched from the Building Reserve Fund.
City Administrator Jon Cameron’s Report:
Emergency Repair projects are wrapping up.
He noted a concrete failure on a part of 5th avenue Northeast.
That project is slated to be finished, and the street reopened this week (Aug 16th.)
This week, street repair project in Southwest is underway.
Weather permitting, the 4th Avenue Southwest and Viking Drive reconstruction project should be completed by late August or early September, this year.
He added with the FEMA Buyout Program, FEMA will photograph those properties, followed by appraisals.
City Updates & Commission comments: Fire Chief Retterath said applications are being accepted for additional fire fighters.
Mayor Werkhoven was pleased with progress in advocating the amoring of the Tolna Coulee.
