Jamestown Officer To Receive Commendation
JAMESTOWN, N.D. (KCSi-T.V. News & AP) - A Jamestown police officer will receive a commendation for getting three Jamestown College students out of
the house they were sleeping in early Saturday as the home was
filling with smoke.
Police say Officer Michael Craig was driving by the residence at 417 1st Avenue, North, about 2:20 a.m. Saturday (Aug 21, 2010) when he noticed the smoke coming from the home. He contacted the LEC, which paged out the Jamestown City Fire Department.
Craig pounded on the home’s door, and not getting a response, broke down the door to see if anyone was inside.
Inside he found the three sleeping male Jamestown College students.
They were safely evacuated from the house.
They had no idea the house was filling with smoke.
Craig had a Jamestown Rural Fire Department volunteer riding along with him, at the time.
Sgt John Johnson arrived on the scene to assist Craig.
No one was hurt. The cause of the smoke was not immediately
determined.
Jamestown Police Chief, Dave Donegan says Officer Craig will be awarded a commendation for his quick and decisive thinking.
